I've heard third-party shells can vary a lot in quality, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The black has a nice, soft matte finish that I'm a huge fan of. My only (minor) complaint is that it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet. It's easy to install-- this was my first reshell (of ANY device) and I managed to do it in about an hour, watching a YouTube video. The screws provided aren't as great as the original, but that's not why I bought this kit, so I didn't mind. You can always just re-use any original screws, just give them a nice wash with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip or soft toothbrush, nbd.10/10 would re-purchase from eXtremeRate, might buy some of their buttons and customize it so it's not quite as monochrome.Easy install, looks great. After reading another review here I opted to keep the original button membranes but everything works well. You get two sprues of buttons with the NES version: one in red, one on charcoal. Only real qualm was the self-drilling triangle screws which threatened to strip themselves while I pressed hard on them.Perfect condition, easy to attachThe old shell came off fine and was easy to take out the motherboard. While trying to screw together the new shell, the provided triwing screws were too shallow and ended up stripping the screwdriver. I recommend using your existing screws from Nintendo to put the new shell together. Sadly I'm not able to open the case back up to install my lcd screen. Hopefully a new triwing screwdriver will do the trick. Just a warning.Absolutely stunning, easy to install and feels great!the triwing screwdriver doesnt hold up because the screws for installation are a bit large in diameter and none if the shell holes seemed to be properly predrilled. the cartridge guard my kit came with was a bit scratched and heavily bent on one arm. i had no other triwing screwdriver so i had to make do best i could. unfortunately i will need a better one to finish up closing the outer shell to my standards. so aside from weak slightly improper screws, some damage to my guard, and a weak screwdriver, Im very happy with the shell. it's well thought out to accept a standard screen, which i used, or to take a different sized backlit one. the glass face cover is top notch, and the shell is as white as advertised. This shell is a wonderful replacement for an original shell. It's durable and sturdy, and I love the the tactile feel of the matte material. Finding that the screen cover was made of glass was a nice surprise (though maybe I didn't pay attention), and the fact that it's built specifically for accommodating aftermarket IPS screen kits made putting one in when I got it later all the more simple. My only criticism is that the screw holes are really, really hard to drive into the first time and I nearly stripped a couple screws in the process.Pros: beautiful color, great texture. The lens is very pretty and the buttons are good quality. The case fits together well. The extension port plug is really handy. My port was bent before I purchased the unit so maybe this is why, but it’s difficult to get the plug back out. Hopefully that’s just an issue for me.Cons: first of all, the lens came wrapped in adhesive plastic wrap. The adhesive was so strong that it left sticky marks on the lens when I removed it. I don’t understand why you need adhesive that’s so strong when the wrap isn’t meant to stay on the lens! The membranes for the d pad and a/b buttons that come with the kit are horrible. They feel extremely mushy and unpleasant. I immediately replaced them with some originals made by Nintendo. Thank god I didn’t get rid of those.Overall, this is good for the price. I like the white lens and select/start buttons. Just avoid the membranes they give you. Would buy again.First thing's first, the finish is absolutely stunning. It is quite hard to pick up the effect on camera as it just seems to come out mainly sparkly blue, but moving it around in your hands you will definitely see it.The design looks thick and durable, with a very nice glossy feel, I don't think it'll be chipping off very easily but I'm still going to be using a clear case to protect it from scratches and general wear. There is one flaw I could find, and it's not a huge deal, but part of the shell is unpainted above the screen bezel, this is only visible from below and wouldn't normally be seen while playing with the console (see photos)The shell went together very easily and securely unlike some of the third party ones from ebay/China.The screen lens included is unfortunately a cheap plastic one which is prone to scratches, I will be investing in a glass lens to give this Gameboy the premium look it deserves!I also opted to use the original buttons and rubber membranes from my old Gameboy Color as the included ones were also quite cheap.Overall this is a great product and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a Gameboy shell that stands out from the rest, without breaking the bank and getting a custom painted shell from Etsy or other marketplaces.I bought the plain white version for the soft-touch finish and whilst it does feel lovely and soft and silky my goodness does it mark easily. 2 days I've had it installed and it's already marked and with the finish, it's near impossible to just wipe off. Due to this, I will probably need to source a replacement soon which is a real shameOct 2020I decided to replace the white one above with the chameleon finish one. It looks and feels absolutely lovely, however - I cannot get a glass screen lens to fit in the LCD window. It's way too tight and keep popping back out so now I'm stuck with the ugly plastic one it came with (that had scratches on it by the way) Knocking another star off as this is the second one I've had issues with! Won't be buying another, not for the price!Does what it says, it fits together well without issue and no gaps unlike some youtube videos out there. The coating for these feels amazing and it's hard to go back to just a regular smooth plastic gameboy after using one of these, a worthy replacement case with all tools included! This is an excellent shell. It feels almost powdery to the touch, a bit like a Trebor Soft Mint (if that makes sense) and helps with grip. It’s not quite pure-white, it’s more of an off-white, but tbh it makes no difference when put together. It looks gorgeous with all-white buttons and screen.I modded my GBC with an IPS, rechargeable battery and installed a micro USB charging port. The [back] shell had to be cut away to allow space for the 2000mAh battery, but was extremely sturdy and held its shape when I was cutting/filing away at it.Real good purchase, and well impressed. This has a kinda matt/vinyl feeling to it and it's awesome just to hold. Also one of the best quality shells that I've encountered after doing some mods. This shell just looks really sleek and professional.
